“The Family Is the Foundation of a Stable and Strong Serbia”: Panel Held Marking the International Day of Families
On the occasion of the International Day of Families, the Foundation “For the Serbian People and State” organized a panel discussion titled “Serbia – Our Family” at the Radisson Hotel, dedicated to the importance of preserving family values, demographic challenges, and the need to address family-related issues openly and responsibly, both in Serbia and internationally The panel featured Jelena Žarić Kovačević, Minister for Family Welfare and Demography,
Olivera Jovović, member of the SMA Serbia Association, and Brian Brown of the nternational Organization for the Family. The speakers discussed the challenges modern families face, the importance of institutional support, and the necessity of strengthening awareness of family values in a time of major social change In addition to representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the panel was attended by members of the Presidency of the Serbian Progressive Party, friends and associates of the Foundation, as well as a large number of young people, once again demonstrating that the issue of family remains one of the most important questions for the
future of Serbian society
During the discussion, it was emphasized that the modern world is facing numerous challenges — declining birth rates, economic pressures, migration, changing lifestyles, and increasing alienation among people — making it essential for the state, institutions, and society as a whole to provide strong support to the family as the cornerstone of a stable and healthy society. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that the issue of family is not only a national matter, but also a global one, discussed around the world today, as preserving the family, caring for children, and ensuring demographic stability are prerequisites for the long-term development of every nation. The Director of the Foundation “For the Serbian People and State,” Ljubica Bertović, stated during the panel “Serbia – Our Family” that “a nation that loses its family and forgets who it is will, over time, lose its state as well,” stressing that the strength and survival of Serbia lie precisely in the preservation of family values Speaking about the importance of unity, stability, and the struggle for Serbia’s future, Bertović emphasized that “Serbia prevails, but only with you and for all our families,” underscoring that there can be no strong state without strong families.
The Foundation “For the Serbian People and State” will continue, through public discussions, panels, and social dialogue, to open important topics concerning Serbia’s future, with a special focus on supporting families, young people, and preserving national and social values.
