Ljubica Miljković (1949–2025)

Ljubica MIljkovic

It is with great sorrow that we receive the news that Ljubica Miljković, art historian and associate of the Foundation “For the Serbian People and State,” passed away today.

Our collaboration with Ljubica began in 2024, when we started working on the book On Serbian Art, with Love, which grew from a single volume into a trilogy, considering the amount of material Ljubica had collected over more than a decade.

She spent her career as a curator at the National Museum from 1984 to 2015, worked as an art critic, and conducted research on 20th-century Serbian painting and the history of the institution where she worked.

She authored numerous exhibitions, studies, catalogues, and monographs. She wrote three television documentaries titled Secrets of the National Museum, as well as several segments for RTS’ educational programme. She gave dozens of lectures at the Kolarac University, the Faculty of Education, and cultural institutions across the Republic of Serbia. She also launched and edited the newsletter Glasnik of the Society of Friends of the National Museum.
She was an honorary member of the Lada Society of Serbian Artists and, as a donor, a member of the Assembly of Matica Srpska. For her decades-long dedicated work, commitment to her profession, and advancement of the museum field, she received numerous letters of appreciation and important professional awards.

She was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award “Mihailo Valtrović,” awarded by the Museum Society of Serbia for outstanding contribution to national culture in the areas of research, preservation, use, collection, and presentation of movable cultural heritage.
In Mrs Ljubica Miljković, we had a rare and valuable associate in the field of preserving and promoting Serbian cultural and spiritual heritage, and we are proud of the fact that her final work was completed in cooperation with our Foundation.
