On 28th June, Vidovdan, it will be four years since launching the journal “Napredak whose scientific scope is defined by the publication of the research from the field of political theory and practice. The scientific arch shaped through “Napredak” connects the Cyrillic script, the remembrance culture, national identity, traditional values, family and state, but it also explains new meanings brought by geopolitical changes, while believing that we can choose our own road by ourselves.
In honour of this we have organized the promotion of the journal in order to speak about our plans for the future, but also to recall our issues to date. First of all, the fact that it is not by accident that the first issue came out on the great Serbian religious holiday! And it is not by accident that the covers of that issue showed the red peonies of Kosovo and Metohija, as symbols of our perseverance and orientation for keeping Serbian Kosovo! That is why our journal is intended for all those who think freely, creatively and critically and who put national interests before their personal benefits.
In the presence of a large number of dear guests we welcomed President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, the ministers from the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the representatives of the diplomatic corps and many other guests. Ot was our pleasure to be able to familiarize them with the content of our scientific journal “Napredak”, which provides space for exchanging ideas and promoting political culture sin order to enable the public to better understand modern political challenges and to encourage it to a constructive dialogue.
We discussed many topics, but we are particularly proud of the team making the journal “Napredak”. Our editorial board academically recognizable, diligent and referential authors and experts willing to help with their knowledge and engagement. It is led by the editor, Professor Zoran Jevtović, PhD, while Professor Uroš Šuvaković, PhD, is responsible for the sphere of politics. The sector of foreign affairs and international relations is assigned to our eminent career diplomat, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivan Mrkić, who deals with the matters of international relations development.
The segment of European law and political system of the European Union is edited by Branko Rakić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, Head of the Department for International Law and International Relations, and Professor Zoran Čupić from the Faculty of Political Science, also one of the leading experts in the field of political systems of the European Union and Euro-integrations.
Ever since its launching, the Editorial Board has included the researchers from the Institute for Political Studies as the most referential institute in this field. One of the extraordinary experts for global geopolitical trends, Professor Ljubiša Despotović, Principal Research Fellow and the President of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Political Studies, deals with the sector of geopolitics, while the sphere of security in the Editorial Board is the responsibility of Obrad Stevanović, PhD from the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies, Lieutenant General of the Serbian police and, formerly, Radoslav Gaćinović, PhD, Principal Research Fellow in the Institute for Political Studies. After his death, his place in the Editorial Board was assigned to Marija Đorić, PhD, Senior Research Fellow and Assistant Director for scientific-research work in the Institute for Political Studies.
Director of the National Museum of Serbia, Bojana Borić-Brešković, MA, edits the cultural segment, while two eminent university professors – historians Marko Atlagić, PhD, and Dalibor Elezović, PhD, are responsible for the segment of history.
The field of social ecology is gaining importance nowadays, and that is why in our journal we have published a number of texts dealing with this issue. The editing of this segment is assigned to Professor Darko Nadić from the Faculty of Political Science, one of the founders of environmental politics, green political theory and sustainable development in Serbia. In fact, our colleague Nadić has prepared a collective monograph dedicated to environmental issues and published by our Foundation.
The segment of media and society is edited by Professor Dejan Vuk Stanković from the Teacher Education Faculty, the University of Belgrade, who is well-known as an excellent analyst of our political life. Of course, our team includes other dear people who work behind the scene and help us: from the Foundation’s employees, via language experts, proof-readers, designers, photographers, to printers, and give their contribution in their efforts to bring the journal to you.
Taking into account the recommendations of the Ministry of Science, we have devel9ped our publishing cooperation with the Institute for Political Studies, whose director Miša Stojadinović, Principal Research Fellow, has become the member of our Editorial Board.
The fact that more than one fifth of the published articles are written by foreign authors indicates the international orientation and wish to cooperate with the global scientific community, particularly those who see Serbia as an honest friend. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Her Excellency Chen Bo, wrote her text in the first issue of the journal and, ever since then, the ambassadors of Serbian friend countries present the visions of the development of their respective countries and the possibilities for expanding mutual cooperation with our country. The highest level of scientific exchange has been achieved with the members of China’s academic community, and in the open and friendly cooperation with them we have published two thematic issues – the first one on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China, and now, in the latest issue dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road, which has attracted huge interest. Both issues are published in Chinese, English and Serbian, the Cyrillic script.
The following issue of the journal “Napredak” will be released at the end of the summer, while the journal is published three times a year.
