Egypt and Serbia have maintained diplomatic relations ever since their establishment between the Khedivate of Egypt and the Kingdom of Serbia in 1908. year Next year, the 115th anniversary will be celebrated since the beginning of the diplomatic relations between these two friend states.

These two countries have excellent relations, although there is a huge space for improving bilateral cooperation in many areas.

Exceptional relations between Egypt and Serbia are founded on strong connections from recent history, which are deeply rooted in characteristic and identical views of the future of their countries and nations, and the goals to be achieved.

Last month, something utterly astonishing took place, an act so brazen that it should have received far more attention worldwide than it did.

In an incident that speaks volumes about Croa- tia’s commitment to preserving the past, Zagreb denied a request by Serbian President Aleksander Vucic to pay a private visit to Jasenovac, where his grandfather was murdered by the Ustashe during the dark days of World War II.

The right to remember, that most basic and fundamental of liberties that underpins human dig- nity, was simply tossed aside by Croatian authorities with little regard for the callousness of their actions.

Historical closeness of the Serbian and Jewish nations, also expressed through their suffering and torments during World War Two is nowadays best reflected in sincere and friendly relations between the two nations and the two countries.

The fact that after the Six Day War in 1967, according to the decision of the Yugoslav government at the time, the diplomatic relations were briefly interrupted officially, did not affect mutual understanding and cooperation whenever it was possible.

Since spring 1992 the diplomatic relations have been raised to the highest level, proving that, although Serbia is not Israel’s geographical neighbour, it is the neighbour in the heart of this nation.
