Ljubica Miljković “On Serbian Art, with Love – Volume 1”

I faced my work, as well as myself, with apprehension. As the curator of the collection of Yugoslav
painting of the 20th century in the National Museum of Serbia, I was dedicated to the safe
accommodation, processing and exhibition of the works I was entrusted with, but also to resolving the
question: Why doesn’t the oldest and most eminent museum institution in Serbia have its collection of
Serbian painting of the 20th century? That is why I wanted our national values to live in time and space. I
tried to present and interpret them as often as possible. Volume 1 contains studies, essays and reviews
of the movements. Phenomena and directions of the Serbian 20th century art, while Volume 2 speaks
about the creative work of individual artists. I tried to connect the texts written independently of one
another into a whole which respects the conclusion by Jovan Jovanović Zmaj – order is the soul of
everything.
