The paper reviews the Yugoslav crisis and considers the role of the Western countries in the breakup of Yugoslavia (SFRY, FRY). The author believes that the transformation of Serbian society began by an “anti-bureaucratic revolution”, while it was ended by the fifth of October “bulldozer revolution”.
Milošević’s fall marked the final collapse of the overall direction led by him during the Yugoslav crisis. The emphasis is on the state split with Montenegro in 2006 as the main failure of Serbia’s politics, while it is pointed out that Kosovo was de facto lost before Milošević’s rise to power, due to the forced displacement of the Serbian population from this region.
